Since 2005, Mr. Reyes has been an associate attorney with Kaufman Legal Group APC and has brought state and federal court litigation experience to the firm’s political law practice.

Prior to joining Kaufman Legal Group, Mr. Reyes was staff attorney for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) in Los Angeles from 2000 to 2005. At MALDEF, he worked in the organization’s Voting Rights/Political Access unit, where he litigated redistricting, language access, and ballot initiative challenges under the Voting Rights Act. In addition, he worked with state and local election officials throughout the Southwestern United States and local grassroots and national civil rights organizations to protect the right to vote and ensure equal access to all aspects of the political process.

As an associate with Kaufman Legal Group, Mr. Reyes has litigated election cases on behalf of candidates and ballot measure proponents; drafted statewide and local ballot measures; advised clients on petition circulation and initiative qualification issues; provided counsel to non-profit and political organizations on compliance with IRS, FEC and state laws regarding election-related communications and issue advocacy; and provided guidance to organizations conducting voter protection campaigns.

Mr. Reyes received his Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1991 and his law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1997. From 1998 to 2000, Mr. Reyes served as a law clerk for the Honorable Justice Joseph F. Baca of the New Mexico Supreme Court. During law school, he served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Harry S. Pregerson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
