Judge Friedman served on the Los Angeles Superior Court from 1995-2010, including two years as Presiding Judge of the Los Angeles Juvenile Court, the largest juvenile court in the United States.  Since 2005, Judge Friedman has been a member of the California Judicial Council, the policy making body for the state judiciary.  He was elected President of the California Judges Association in 2005.  Prior to his judicial career, Judge Friedman served 4 terms in the State Assembly, representing the Westside and the San Fernando Valley.  He authored 76 laws, including a ban on smoking in all indoor workplaces, prohibition on employment discrimination against gays and lesbians, and funding to keep open Los Angeles County’s juvenile offender probation camps.  As a practicing lawyer, Judge Friedman was Executive Director of Bet Tzedek and a staff attorney with the Western Center on Law and Poverty.  Judge Friedman is a graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law and received his BA, with honors, from UCLA.  Presently, Judge Friedman is a private mediator and arbitrator with JAMS.
